Natrona County Meals On Wheels provides home-delivered meals, friendly visits, and
well-being checks for our community's home-bound, handicapped and convalescent adults.
Through the Natrona County Meals On Wheels program, daily meals meeting 1/3 of the recommended daily allowance are delivered to qualified homebound persons who live within our service area. (City of Casper, south to Robertson Road, Evansville, east to the county line, north to Bar Nunn, Mills, Mountain View, and southwest to the airport)
Arrangements for weekly frozen meal pickup for other parts of Natrona County are possible.
An additional component of the program is the daily well-being check by our volunteers. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Frozen evening and weekend meals are delivered, to those who need them, along with the hot noon meal.
- Age 60 or over.
- Spouse of someone age 60 or over
- Homebound due to an illness, disabilty, or isolation*
- Unable to cook or shop
*Those under age 60 must be referred by a medical care provider.
Each new, meal client participates in a comprehensive one-on-one assessment with the Meals On Wheels social worker. During the assessment visit, the client and social worker determine an appropriate per-meal Donation based on his or her monthly income and expenses.
Invoices for meals are sent to clients at the end of each month.
- Eat the hot meal as soon as it arrives or refrigerate it until you are ready to reheat and eat it.
- Immediately refrigerate or freeze any meals you receive for supper or the weekend.
- If you are not going to be home at meal delivery time or don't wish to receive a meal some day, please call the office no later than 9 a.m. that day to make arrangements. Even if you tell a meal delivery volunteer, you must also call the office at 265-8659, to avoid being invoiced for unwanted meals.
- If you wish to have your meals delivered on a day that you are unable to be at home, arrangements with the office will include whether your meals will be received by a neighbor, delivered to your refrigerator, or to a clean cooler containing ice that you will leave outside your front door.
- We are concerned about your well-being. If you have not notified us in advance that you will not be home and you do not answer the door, we will make every effort to learn your whereabouts and know that you are safe.
- During your assessment visit, provide us with the name, address, and phone number of a contact person. We will contact this person if we are concerned about your welfare.
Meals On Wheels delivers meals 5 days a week. Some folks receive a hot noon meal while others request an additional sealed meal for supper, as well. In addition, MOW delivers from one to five frozen meals each Friday, with the hot meal, for those who request meals for weekend or holiday use. Frozen meals can be conveniently heated in either a microwave or a conventional oven.
