MOW Volunteer Questions and Answers
Natrona County Meals on Wheels - 307-265-8659
  • Most recipients will be waiting for their meal(s) and you, Unless your route chart says otherwise, knock, open the door if not locked, say "Meals On Wheels", and enter. Because many recipients have specialized diets, check the name on the tray and/or sack for accuracy.
  • If the door is locked but there is a clean cooler with an ice packet by the door, and the meal is in a sack, put the sack and any beverages into the cooler.
  • Limit visiting to no more than 5 minutes so all meals get delivered hot. You can return for a longer visit if you wish. But a few minutes is great as this is a big part of what you do. The recipients appreciate it and MOW counts on you to report anything amiss or of concern to you about the recipient, their living conditions, their home, their pets, their family, etc.
  • Let the office staff or your coordinator know any observations or comments you may have about our service or our recipients. Report any meals you return to coordinator or office staff.
  • You complete the communication circle and we count on you as much as our recipients do. We can't fix what we don't know is broken, so complaints you might hear are also important.

  • Never hesitate to communicate with us while delivering. A quick call on your cell phone or from the recipient's home can answer questions, provide directions, and solve problems, even a few vehicle problems
  • Should you discover an emergency, call 911 or MOW, 265-8659. Never attempt to move someone who has fallen. Make them comfortable, if possible without moving them and wait for help. If you'd like someone to deliver the rest of your route, call MOW at 265-8659.
  • Should you be involved in an unusual incident, such as a fall of your own, vehic1e problems, an accident, etc, report. this to the proper authorities when appropriate, and ALWAYS to MOW. We're not far away, if you need assistance or someone to complete your deliveries.
  • Sack meals and beverages are dated. If previous ones are present, throw out expired beverages. Report old meals and large accumulations of food to MOW.
  • In some situations, your best judgment is needed. If no one is home -
    • Be sure you have knocked loud enough and waited long enough for our older recipients
    • Recheck your route chart for notes about this recipient
    • If the door is locked and there is no cooler or no ice packet, return the meal(s) to MOW
